Description: 356 Drive to Sunrise

Sunday, October 4, 2020

Depart McDonald's parking lot Enumclaw @ 8:45 am.

All mileage stated below from McDonalds:

Head Eastbound on Highway 410
In 13 miles there is a wide shoulder but no view. ( A safe pull-off in an emergency)
In 17 miles is town of Greenwater. Bathrooms are Sanikan only. One gas station, not much parking.
In 24 miles there is a Mt Rainier viewpoint. No restroom facilities.
In 32 miles Crystal Mt and a wide pull off lane in case of emergency. In 37 miles the turn off to Sunrise Visitor Center
In 38 miles is the entrance gate to the park boundary. $20 fee to continue to Sunrise Visitor Center. This should take us 36-40 minutes from Enumclaw to get to this gate.
There are restroom facilities and a parking area on the right hand side after passing through the gate. We can stop here if necessary.
In 42 miles is the White River Campground.
In 49 miles is Sunrise Point. Park in lot on left or continue around the hairpin and parking area on right shoulder for maybe 7-8 cars to line up. Expansive territorial view.
In 52 miles is the parking lot for the Sunrise Visitor Center.
Pack a picnic lunch if you like and there are several hiking trail options available as well.
Picnic area is a short walk to picnic tables at the end of the lot on the right.
Restrooms are also available. Park where you can find space. It may be possible to find a space parallel to the main lot on the far left side. However, some of this area is marked no parking. This is a busy lot, one way driving direction around the lot. Spaces will likely be at a premium on a Sunday.
Upon departure, after approximately 2 hours at Sunrise, we will retrace the route back to Enumclaw and on through Buckley on highway 410.
You are free to depart on your own if you choose.
As a longer and more scenic option, you may also choose an alternate route home that would take you around Mt. Rainier, exiting the park through the Nisqually Entrance gate. You would use the Stevens Canyon entrance toward Paradise to exit the park via Nisqually Entrance.
If the weather is wet and raining, EVENT IS CANCELLED.
