A special thank you member John Brooks, Navy veteran, who paid for and secured a 10-acre beachfront facility owned by the Navy called the Rocky Point Recreation Area (Google maps shows it as the “Rocky Point Lodge”)! We have this Area from sunup to sundown. Thank you, John!
Register for the event below!!
This facility was built for year-round functions for squadron parties, weddings and such. The private, access for this Area only, paved parking lot holds 200 cars, and the Club House holds 200 people and seating for 80 on picnic tables. The private beach has a bathroom facility, and the beach access extends for one mile! Complete with volleyball nets (anyone have a volleyball they can bring?), horseshoe pits, barbeques (bring your own charcoal) and kite flying if you have a kite. Fun for the entire family! Bring your own food (don’t forget charcoal if you want to BBQ), drinks and chairs if you want to go sit out on the beach. John believes the Clubhouse might have things available to rent…I will follow up with another email regarding this.
We will start the day with a meetup at the Stanwood Park & Ride at Exit 212 on I-5 at 9am. Then take the backgrounds up through Skagit Valley with a planned stop at the top Mt Erie on Fidalgo Island, south of Anacortes and then drop down into the northern end of Whidbey Island over Deception Pass to the Rocky Point Facility in time for lunch and a long stop to enjoy the beach and the facility. Exact driving directions are below. Late afternoon the tour will then head south down to Clinton where we will catch a ferry to Mukilteo to head home. You are free to come and go as you please.
The Clinton/Mukilteo Ferry schedule can be found here. The ferry leaves either side nearly every half hour (crossing time 20 min). The cost is $9.90 for the driver and their vehicle less than 14’ in length. Passengers ages 6-18 cost $2.80 each; passengers ages 19-64 cost $5.65 each; passengers ages 65+ cost $2.80.
